From: HittmanRob Sent: 10/6/2005 2:03 AM Hittman vs akduffer...was the most exciting match of Hittman's career...not many holes were halved...Mike went 3-up in the first 4 holes (His putter was on fire)....Rob fought back to be down 1 at the turn....then lady luck took him into the woods for a nice talk and he came back to win 10 and 11 to take the lead and by 14 he was up a couple...Mike came back and won 15 and 16 to even the match and both 17 and 18 were tied with pars .....Overtime was in order...first time both players struggle missing the green and again settling for pars....back to tee......second time Mike sticks approach to 4.5 feet and Hittman is 20+ feet long in rough...but again lady luck slaps his butt and the chip falls into the cup...back to tee....this time both players about 20 feet on putting surface and Mike leaves it a bit short...Hittman closes his eyes and curls the put in the hole not a half turn too soon. Hittman (with lady luck in his pocket) walks away with a 1-up victory. Was a match where there was no loser, because the effort by both players especially with the changes in momentum raised the blood pressure and created maximum sweaty palms...Was a true pleasure akduffer, and I salute you and wish you well in future tourneys and challenges. Rob
From: akduffer1 Sent: 10/6/2005 9:58 AM Thanks, Rob. That is a gr8 summary of the match, which indeed was one of the most back and forth I've ever been involved with. Neither player gave an inch, and both hit exceptional shots at key stages throughout. But that chip-in on the 2nd playoff hole (a twisty downhiller out of the rough, with me sitting 4 feet from the pin) was about the best clutch shot I've ever seen since I started playing this game. Hats off to you, Rob, because I definitely don't feel like I lost, but that you won it in fair, square, and dramatic fashion, and it was fitting that you sank another not-easy 19-foot downhiller to end it. Gr8 playing with you, and best of luck throughout the rest of the tourney! Cheers, Mike |
