Set 1: In a rematch of last year's final, defending champion Tricatrina takes on world #2 Vanessa Child. Last year Tricatrina won the battle, but that will mean nothing this time around. Tricatrina had been playing terribly since the French Open and many thought she would lose quite early here at the U.S. Open. With some help from some upsets, Tricatrina quietly eased her way to the semi's, where she ended the incrdible run by young Jbors47, who took out world #1 Jennacourt in the second round. Vanessa Child, who has only played in two events since Wimbledon, showed a strong performance by winning teh Pierce Grand Prix right before the Open. She fought through tough quarter final and semi final matches against dav6789 and x.doublea, and looks in good condition. There are no breaks of serve in the first set, however break points are saved on both ends. In the tie-break, Tricatrina opens up the court beautifully and shows her artistry as she wins it 7-6 (7-3).

Set 2: Vanessa Child has two break points to start the set, but Tricatrina gets out of the hole and holds. Tricatrina then plays a great game to break Child at love, and holds after at 40-30. Child then goes down on her service game 15-40, giving Tricatrina two opportunities to serve it out, but Vanessa Child erases them with an ace and a backhand cross-court winner. She holds and then breaks back, breaking once more in an exciting game to win the second set 6-4.

Set 3: Now Vanessa Child is in control as she dictates play and forces Tricatrina to do a great deal of running. Tricatrina keeps it close though, but gets broken mid-set after missing the baseline by less than an inch. Child serves it out to win her first U.S. Open title 6-7 6-4 6-3 and reclaim her world #1 ranking!
