The Bears lead the entire game as Walter Payton capped the 1st quarter with a 3 yard run to give the Bears a 10-0 lead. The Packers would manage a safety and would go into the locker room down 8. But late 3rd quarter Bears QB Jim McMahon seemingly put the game out of reach with a 3 yard strike to TE Tim Wrightman. Bears lead 17-2 going into the 4th.
Favre tossed two scores including the game winner to Brooks in the 4th to lead the 16 seeded Packers to the upset.
