49ers kicker Mike Cofer converted a 20 yard fg with 5:09 left in overtime to propell the 1990 49ers to the victory on their home field.
The game was low scoring though 2 quarters as a Chip Lomiller field goal was all the scoring mustered in the 1st half. On the opening drive of the 2nd half. 49ers QB Joe Montana hit Jerry Rice for the first of 2 touchdowns in the period. The 49ers led 14-10 after 3. After 2 Cofer field goals the niners had a 20-10 lead. But Skins QB Mark Rypien hit Art Monk for his 2 TD reception to cut the lead to 3. On the final drive, Rypien drove his team into postion to tie game. And Chip Lohmiller nailed the 40 yarder to send it to extra frames.
Joe Montana was amazing in this game he compeleted 37 of 45 passes for 425 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jerry Rice caught 15 of the 37 balls and racked up 185 yards and 2 touchdowns to take home player of the game honors.
Mark Rypien tossed for 258 yards and two scores in a losing effort. Art Monk caught 9 passes two for TDs as well.
On Defense Ronnie Lott and Kevin Fagan each had a interception. While Charles Haley got the Niners lone sack. For the Skins, Charles Mann and Bobby Wilson each had 2 sacks. Fred Stokes got Montana's lone mistake of the afternoon at the Stick. |
