What a game to close out and a amazing tournament. The score was tied at 10 at halftime. And John Riggins scored from 10 yards out to give Washington a 17-10 lead. Minnesota would add a field goal to cut the margin to 4.
Early 4th, Minnesota would take its first lead. Cunningham hit Andrew Glover for a 10 yard TD, 20-17, Minnesota. Then after a Washington turnover, Minnesota cashed in with Leroy Hoard touchdown catch. Washington would add a score with 1:30 left, but it wasn't enough. Minnesota is the champion.
Randall Cunningham was the tournament MVP. In the championship He was 23-36, 257 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Cris Carter and Randy Moss each had 5 grabs, but neither found the end zone.
John Riggins carried the ball 31 times for 114 yards and 1 touchdown. Charlie Brown caught 9 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown. Art Monk who caught 11 passes, was held to just 5. |
