Bracket Notes: The 9th annual MCT saw 3rd seeded Perth Amboy win again by defeating 5th seeded Sayreville in the Championship Game after the Bombers led by all time leading scorer and former JFK assistant coach, Steve Makwinski reached the final. St. Thomas Aquinas, in its 2nd year of varsity competition, played in its first MCT, and knocked off 8th seeded Piscataway and top seeded East Brunswick before losing to Sayreville. The tournament was in honor of longtime Sayreville coach and AD, John Gutkowski. Seeds are courtesy of the Metuchen Recorder from February 14, 1973.
